Volunteers and staff working hard to make our village shine

Board of Management

Nigel Charles, Chair

[email protected]

Nigel has been a barber for over 30 years. He opened Cut Masters on Eglinton West in 2013. Nigel is dedicated to excellence in his trade and enjoys sharing his skills and passion for barbering by training others. In his free time, Nigel enjoys sketching, painting, photography, sports, and listening to jazz.

Crosstown LRT construction motivated Nigel to join the Business Improvement Area to advocate for businesses and identify opportunities to sustain economic prosperity during construction. Now the BIA Chair, Nigel continues to work toward improving the vibrance and economic success of the Upper Village, where there are activities and festivals that honor both entrepreneurs as well as residents of the area. His hopes to make the Upper Village a top location for small businesses to grow.

Mazher (Marz) Jaffery, Vice-Chair

[email protected]

Marz is a long-standing Cedarvale resident who opened Café on the Hill in 2020. As Vice-Chair of the Upper Village BIA, he channels his decades of experience as a business leader and care for the neighbourhood into ideas and actions that make the Upper Village a thriving hub for residents and businesses.

Marz’s resumé includes Founding and running the Canadian Business College as CEO, sitting on the Toronto Board of Trade Municipal Affairs Committee and co-chairing the Toronto Training Board Planning Committee.

In addition to mentoring his three sons in their own business ventures, Marz enjoys time with friends and family, art and culture, community engagement, and chess.
